Independence Day Concert

July 4, 2026 @ 5:30 pm 9:30 pm

The tradition of celebrating Independence Day with live music followed by fireworks will continue along the south banks of the Kankakee River.

The event will include three live music performances. Kankakee Community College gates open at 4:30 PM and admission is $20 per carload (cash only). All proceeds benefit the KVSO. Food concessions will be available beginning at 4:30 PM. Vendors will be Jimmy Jo’s BBQ, Martinez Tacos, Oberweis Ice Cream and Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra concessions.

The schedule of events includes the following:

  • Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra concert – 5:30 PM
  • Kankakee Municipal Band concert – 6:30 PM
  • Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra concert – 7:30 PM
  • The fireworks display will commence at dusk (approximately 9:00 PM) with a duration of about 25 minutes

All groups will be performing American and patriotic music. Barbi Brewer-Watson will give opening remarks.

On the KCC grounds, picnicing is welcomed and indoor restrooms are available. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets as no seating is provided. KCC’s grounds are handicap accessible. Grills and personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted.


The KVSO symphony concert is underwritten by Riverside Medical Center and the Illinois Arts Council. The Kankakee Valley Park District, the City of Kankakee and KCC are also sponsors.
